Okra is blooming!
The 'Cajun Delight' Okra is blooming, and even has some fruit on it! This southern favorite, also known as gumbo, is an All American Selections winner and produces high yields of dark green fruit. POds should be harvested no longer than 5" long. There are 3 boxes with 16 plants in each. These boxes are part of the water experiment measuring the amount of water vs. the height of the plant.
Just because we are nearing the end of summer does not mean that veggie gardening is over. There are many things that thrive in the cooler fall temps. I am getting ready to start my cool weather crop seeds to rotate the boxes around a bit. Below you will find some examples of cool weather vs. warm weather crops...
Cool:
Beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, chard, endive, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, peas, radish, spinach,
Warm (hot):
Beans, corn, cucumber, eggplant, melons, okra, peppers, tomatillo, tomato, watermelon
Happy Gardening!
